## The language of energy

Watts describe power; watt-hours describe energy over time. In a learning calculation, 20 kW over two hours gives 40 kWh. “Savings” must specify energy, a bill, peak demand, losses or deferred construction.

## Power as a pipe and pump

The water analogy makes throughput, flow and buffers easier to understand. The agent uses it to explain, then returns to electrical quantities for calculations. Access to capacity also depends on technical conditions and a contract.

## Types of power and capacity

Active, reactive and apparent power are distinguished. Installed, available, contracted and controllable capacity are described separately. Equipment nameplate ratings do not prove availability at the required hour. Location, time, duration and performance conditions are mandatory.

Flexibility changes the load profile. Check the baseline, response speed, duration and recovery after an event. A lower peak may accompany higher later consumption. The agent accounts for the agreed full interval and operating limits.

An asset combines several energy systems. Thermal inertia and storage offer different ways to shift demand. The agent checks product safety, temperature, available charge, losses and reserves. Computing rights need a separate specification of output and quality.

In the author’s model, a practical megawatt describes useful capacity with location, timing, duration and evidence. A monetary claim additionally needs an obligor, beneficiary, price, maturity, liability and dispute process. Improvement potential remains a hypothesis until verified.

## How to explain it to a financier

Start with the asset, load profile and source of value. Then show measurements, participant rights, costs and cash flow. The agent prepares a verifiable dossier, lists unresolved questions and distinguishes forecasts, accruals and payments.

## Minimum working knowledge

Check units, profile, baseline, simultaneous loads, grid constraints and control authority. The agent must explain which evidence would change the decision and leave a reproducible calculation. Missing evidence is explicitly identified.
